About

It’s been said that the external is shallow but I’ve come to find that the way we see the external is actually very deep. Everything has a story. Even in the manner that we interpret a story has a story. The evolution of our preferences, perceptions and even the words we use upon our lips to describe the things we see have a story. The trash that blows along a highway… a towering modern day skyscraper…the old oak tree sitting in the middle of a field… the abandoned house or community… the old trophy that once belonged to someone now sitting in a thrift store… old family photos found in a dumpster…an unmarked tombstone. These countless stories make up the grid of our world whether we can see them or not. But the garments and accessories we wear speak to a more intimate relation. They are often times symbolic of us. They come along with us. They move with us. They endure with us. . They triumph and fall with us. They await us. They are even labeled, judged, ranked, discarded, and sometimes rediscovered…just like us. They’ve been sold with us and at times they are more cherished and embraced…more so than us. I have always been as fascinated with the history of fashion as I am with the process of design. Over the years I have come to find that fashion is so directly related to the structure of our world in all it’s perceptions and dynamics of politics, race, gender, ethnicity, economic class and moral compasses. This blog will take a look at our world through the eyes of a designer. Fashion is everywhere but alongside it are the millions of stories and perceptions that ultimately connect us all…the good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly and the indifferent. It is indeed a designer world…in more ways than one.
